Fall in the Northeast is one of the main reasons we suffer through the long winters here. It’s everything Fall should be! Writing this today, I’ve traded out the shorts for jeans and a sweatshirt, and the windows are thrown wide open to welcome the steady, brisk breeze off Lake Erie (see picture at the bottom of the post). Moody skies, and perfect 70 degree temperatures beckon us outdoors. Wanting to smell woodsmoke and listen to logs hiss and crackle, we give ourselves permission to abbreviate our time in the kitchen. Tonight, we’re opening a fabulous bottle of red wine, and assembling a seasonal cheese board for dinner.

When the weather gets cooler we reach for options that are bold, rich and can stand up to the more complex flavors of the season. Trust us, we know you’ll love these cozy cheeses too. So go ahead, light a fire or the perfect candle, pull out the corkscrew, and give these seasonal favorites a try. Happy Fall!

Roth Case Moody Blue Cheese

Made in small batches from fresh, local Wisconsin milk, Roth Kase’s rich, creamy Moody Blue is delicately smoked to create subtle smoky undertones with hints of roasted nuts and coffee. Moody Blue is excellent on a cheese plate. Set it out with plum compote, fresh pears, or serve it with dark chocolate as a dessert plate. Enjoy Moody Blue with Cotes du Rhone or Zinfandel.

Cranberry Chevre

Sweetened with dried cranberries and spiced with cinnamon, this would be perfect as part of a cheese board, or served with breakfast on a toasted bagel. Montchevre fresh goat cheese logs are hand crafted from fresh prime quality milk.

Aged Mimolette 12 Month

Mimolette is a unique, cave-aged cheese from the Normandy region. In the cellars, Mimolette develops its wide range of fruity, nutty flavors. Mimolette texture changes from a relatively soft, pressed curd cheese to a hard, flavorful cheese that breaks cleanly when matured. Mimolette is very attractive on any cheese plate with its bright orange color. Red wine pairings include Pinot Noir, or a white Pouilly Fume works well too.

and now…check out our blustery night!
