We’ve all seen them. The little corner in every social media home cook’s kitchen where all of the magic happens. From a food blogger perspective, this concept has stumped my mom and I. For as long as I’ve been living in NYC, I’ve been trying to recreate this same idea in my own apartment – or at least find out how they do it! I want to learn the secrets, the untold tips and tricks, the realtors they’ve been in contact with to source these incredible spots!! But, what I’ve learned from these creators (thanks to the thousands of other envious home cooks looking for the same cozy, welcoming, effortless kitchen vibe) is: it just takes one corner.
I think this mantra applies to every home kitchen. Not just the small ones! Creating your perfect welcoming kitchen doesn’t have to be expensive, or expansive at that. (great word play there…wow) You just need one dedicated space for your vision to shine. In my case, I’m looking to create a filming spot that really encapsulates the “Moments feel”. And if you’re following the same accounts we’re following, I’m sure you know who we’re talking about.
we’re looking at you Wishbone Kitchen & Justine’s Table 😉
What I love about this is that it focuses the personality, the wow-factor, and that special spot for your Nancy Myers dreams to shine down to one area. So, no matter how much counter space – or lack thereof – you have at your disposal, your kitchen can still feel alive!
Our picks…
This post is as helpful to me as I hope it will be for you. This is because I’m currently in the market for some kitchen-enhancing decor myself. Like I said, I’m ALSO obsessed with the trend. Before these social media home cooks existed, I would have never thought to put a warm-toned light on my kitchen counter. But look at me now! Shopping for the best dupe I can find.
Justine from Justine’s Table swears by Etsy for her counter-scape, so I’ll be doing the same thing. BUT I also plan on leaving my options open and hunting for some cool finds in person!
Here’s what I’ll be on the lookout for:
- An olive oil cruet…this is a must for aesthetically drizzling olive oil on any/all of your dishes.
- A tiny, warm-toned lamp…speaks for itself, but we’re really trying to harness that cozy vibe in our kitchen corner-scape
- A platform of some kind…you know how everyone has risers now to place some of their other kitchen must-haves on top of? Need one of those.
- A tray for my oils & vinegars
- Book ends…to hold my cookbooks in place where there might not be a wall or structure to keep them upward!
- Mason jars/other glass jars for keeping my herb clusters alive & fresh in water
- Candles, candles, candles
Let us know in the comments how your kitchen corner turns out. I hope it’s just as cozy as you’re envisioning! Mine, on the other hand, will be a bit of a work in progress for the time being…but I can’t wait for you all to see it when it’s done!
xoxo,
Kim & Tess
