“Coastal grandmother is a lifestyle and aesthetic that embodies elements of coastal living and homemaking. But more than that, it’s about romanticizing your everyday life and finding beauty in the ordinary moments.” (@lexnicoleta)

The Coastal Grandmother aesthetic definitely resonates with me – especially in the kitchen! And “finding beauty in the ordinary moments” is what Moments is all about! Homemaking the CG way means embodying a way of living that’s both tasteful and timeless. It’s all about minimalism. For those of us who prefer quality over quantity, making delicious food from scratch (think one-pot, stovetop steamed clams with plenty of warm butter), growing a garden, and drinking wine while we cook (a.k.a. life’s simple pleasures) – it’s time to make sure the “heart of the home” is on trend.

When I think of the quintessential Coastal Grandmother kitchen my mind immediately drifts to the set of a Nancy Meyers movie. I envision myself in a perfectly appointed, cozy kitchen – whipping up pancake batter in a white porcelain mixing bowl. As a whole, the aesthetic is neutrals, natural fabrics, and thoughtfully chosen pieces that are both beautiful and functional.

Appointing the CG Kitchen

Whether your space is roomy or compact, choosing furnishings, kitchen equipment and tools that will go the distance is key. With the “less is more” CG mantra in mind, it pays to invest in quality pieces that you will actually use often and love. Try clean lines and natural fabrics like linen and cotton for the furnishings. These are timeless and seasonless. If you apply the neutral CG color palate, it’s simple adapt the space with seasonal pillows and throws. Then, invest in small appliances and tools that can multitask (skipping the one-trick-wonders also saves considerable real estate in the kitchen). The final touches – fresh flowers from the garden and hand-crafted candles. These are simple, yet meaningful ways to breath life into your space (and they definitely have the CG seal of approval).
